Rivers State Local Government Election: Governor Fubara Defies IGP’s Order
Governor Fubara has rejected the Inspector General of Police’s (IGP) last-minute directive to halt the Rivers State local government election, slated for October 5. Fubara asserts his constitutional authority to conduct the election, aligning with the President’s powers.
The IGP’s order follows an Abuja Court ruling prohibiting police involvement in the election. However, the River State High Court has upheld the election scheduled to hold on Saturday, 5th October, 2024.
The River State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has requests voter registration from INEC as Gov. Fubura shows optimism for the upcoming local government election.
