El-Rufai: I Didn’t Join Politics to Steal, Ready to Swear on Quran
Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has vehemently denied allegations of corruption during his tenure, stating that his entry into politics was driven by a desire to serve the people, not to accumulate wealth or misappropriate public funds. He made this declaration on a Hausa program aired on Freedom Radio, Kaduna, emphasizing that he was already financially stable before becoming governor.
El-Rufai’s administration was previously indicted by the Kaduna State House of Assembly for the misappropriation of over N423 billion during his eight-year tenure. However, he and his associates have consistently denied these accusations, labeling them as politically motivated.
The former governor expressed his willingness to swear on the Quran to prove his innocence, but only if other former governors and current leaders do the same. El-Rufai stressed that he has always prayed for guidance and strived not to betray the trust of the people.
