Bello’s Responsive Governance, Transparency, Accountability Remain our Compass – Engr Bashir Gegu
Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr Abubakar Bashir Gegu has said that despite seemingly emerging insurmountable challenges, the government of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo is determined to meticulously follow the progressive and sound legacy of responsive governance, transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness bequeathed by the immediate past government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
Addressing some of his professional colleagues who came on a courtesy visit to his Lokoja residence yesterday, Engr Bashir Gegu noted that Alhaji Ododo’s government is not ready to adopt a ‘trial and error’ approach to governance, adding that the prevailing economic realities in the country demand sustained prudence, probity, accountability and fairness which are characteristics that earned the immediate past government favorable global ratings.
The Commissioner who adduced the establishment of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Kogi State University Kabba, construction of the Ganaja junction flyover, the Reference Hospital Okene, and several other capital-intensive projects to judicious application of state resources by the immediate past administration noted that the government of Alhaji Ododo has also commenced on a very good footing by making public the income accruable to the state.
He said “When service to humanity is your driving force for seeking public office, transparency and accountability become the currency with which you operate. Alhaji Ododo is a thorough bred Accountant and Auditor who knows that the state resources ought to be applied judiciously for the general good of all. So, the recent public declaration of FAAC’s allocation to Kogi State is a display of his professional conviction and offshoot of fiscal responsibility culture bequeathed to him by the immediate past administration.”
The Commissioner used the occasion to further assure the people that the government of Ododo would strive to meet the yearnings and aspirations of Kogi people within available resources in terms of welfare, infrastructural development, security, and other sectors that are germane to the growth of the state.
