ABRIDGED CITATION OF SALISU OGBO USMAN, PhD, FCIA, FABEN, RECTOR, KOGI STATE POLYTECHNIC, LOKOJA
Dr Salisu Ogbo Usman was born in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State. He obtained his First School Leaving Certificate and Senior School Certificates from Ankpa LGA.
He obtained B.Sc in Political Science and MSc Political Science from Bayero University, Kano and University of Ilorin, respectively. He obtained PhD in Political Economy and Development Studies from Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
Dr. Usman Ogbo, as he is fondly called, started his public service career with the University of Ilorin as an Administrative Officer from where he transferred his services to Kogi State University, Anyigba, as Assistant Lecturer.
He rose steadily through the ranks and was promoted as Associate Professor of Political Science with effect from the year 2021.
At the Kogi State University, Dr. Usman who was aptly described as adminstrative wizard had held various academic and administrative positions. He served as Head, Department of Political Science, Coordinator, General Studies Unit, Acting Director, General Studies Unit, Dean, Student Affairs, Director of Consultancy Services and Member of Governing Governing Council of Kogi State University, among other notable positions of academic and administrative responsibilities too numerous to mention here.
Dr. Usman Ogbo also variously served as Chairman, Secretary and Member of not less than 70 standing and ad-hoc committees both at the University of Ilorin and Kogi State University respectively.
Dr. Usman has published numerous articles in reputable national and international journals and has several chapters in edited books to his credit.
In addition, he has attended and presented papers at conferences both at the disciplinary and interdisciplinary levels across the country and beyond.
He has also delivered lectures and engaged in constructive interactions at several conferences, forums, workshops and symposia.
He is a member of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA), Fellow, Institute of Corporate Administration (FCIA), Fellow, Association of Business Educators of Nigeria (FABEN) and Member, Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP).
Dr. Usman assumed office as Acting Rector of Kogi State 2020, and the appointment was confirmed as substantive Rector on 12th February, 2021, by the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello.
Dr Usman has reformed and restored the Polytechnic to institutional preeminence through efficient infrastructural provision, administrative revolution, academic discipline and moral rebirth.
These are evidenced in the administrative and academic complexes spread across the two campuses, adequate provision of academic consumables, full accreditation of 30 academic programmes, introduction of new academic programmes, creation and repositioning of directorates and units, efficient and effective security arrangements, attention to the welfare of both staff and students, among others to numerous to mention.
Dr. Usman has so far received over Sixty (60) awards and still counting. The most recent among them is the NUJ Educational Administrator of the Year 2022 and other notable awards from religious, cultural, students and corporate organisations for his distinguished and meritorious services to humanities.
It is important to note that, this workaholic, dedicated, committed, diligent and ever loyal public servant of note, has never received query all through his public service accross the institutions and organisations.
Encouragingly, he has instead received letters of commendation from his employers across levels, for his commitment and exemplary dedication to duties.
Worthy of mention among them include commendation letter from the Governing Council of Kogi State Polytechnic on 17th June, 2022, for prudent and effective management of scarce resources, letter of commendation from the Vice-Chancellor of Kogi State University, Anyigba, after serving as the Dean of Students Affairs, letter of commendation received at the University of Ilorin for his diligence as administrative staff of the University, among others.
As part of his notable town and gown relationships in the discharge of his duties,
he was spotted and recognised by the traditional institutions in the state.
Dr. Usman was confered with the revered chieftaincy title of ‘Omaoja’ Ata Igala, by the Ata Igala, the paramount ruler of Igala Kingdom and President, Kogi State Traditional Council of Chiefs.
Chief Usman, was also confered with the Chieftaincy title of ‘Otunba Olutaiyese’ of Ogidi Kingdom by the Ologidi of Ogidi Kingdom.
Chief Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman is happily married and blessed with children.
