Federal Government: We intend to Turn NYSC into an Organisation that Generates Revenue
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme is being reformed by the federal government to become a business that generates income.
The modifications, according to Minister of Youth Jamila Ibrahim, were intended to get corps members ready for the workforce following their time serving the nation. She made this announcement on Sunday during a show that was broadcast on Channels Television.
She added that the government is considering the corps members’ allowance and that it is suggesting a comprehensive financial plan for the programme.
As you are all aware, we have declared that the NYSC programme will be reformed. We want the programme to be more than just a government social initiative.
Speaking about corps members’ safety in the face of national insecurity, the minister said that members are no longer assigned to states that are considered dangerous.
She mentioned that the programme has secured participants by deploying them exclusively in safe states, among other measures.
“The government and NYSC as an organisation have taken urgent action and have ceased dispatching corps members to extremely dangerous states.
It is something we have done in the past. To protect their safety, we haven’t posted corps members in certain states, she continued.
